Kuzuzangpo la everyone! I am looking to buy a used vehicle to commute daily between Paro and Thimphu. My budget is around 600,000 Nu. I am confused between a Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (2018) and a 4x4 Mahindra Bolero. Will a 2WD compact SUV survive the steep mountain inclines and winter road conditions near Dochula Pass?

Kuzuzangpo la! If you are mostly driving on the national highway between Paro and Thimphu, the Vitara Brezza is much more comfortable, offers better fuel economy, and handles the curves easily. However, if you plan to visit your village on farm roads during the monsoon season, the ground clearance and raw power of the Mahindra Bolero 4x4 is irreplaceable. The mud on secondary roads here will easily trap any 2WD vehicle.

I highly recommend checking the undercarriage and suspension links before buying any car in Bhutan. The constant vibration from road debris and potholes wears out tie rod ends and ball joints rapidly. Also, make sure the engine air filter is clean; mountain high altitudes require maximum airflow for proper fuel combustion, or your car will lose power pulling uphill.

@Dragon_Rider_BT Kadrin chhe la for the clear feedback. I rarely go on unpaved village roads, mostly commuting on asphalt. The seller of the Brezza wants 650,000 Nu but the tires are quite worn out. Replacing tires with good quality all-season rubber in Thimphu is going to cost an extra 30,000 Nu.
